HAIM (2022 latest @ post 150)

My CD has just arrived and there is no mention on there of them being Bonus Tracks, strangely. Is it a weird streaming tax fiddle or something?

Are they the last three tracks, though? Because that’s a good point, especially since Summer Girl works so well as a bookend with Los Angeles

Yeah, the track listing is identical to Spotify

I believe those three tracks are absent from the vinyl pressing but could be wrong

edit: nope looks like I was wrong

Good. Haim vinyl always sounds amazing, 45RPM and all that, but would be gutting to have those three left off

It’s taking me some adapting to the production on a lot of this. The songs are good I guess I’m just slightly taken aback by e.g. 3AMā€˜s Parliament vibes

Agreed, thought the second album had some good stuff on

Really strong first half and throw in ā€œRight Nowā€ as well

Every review I’ve read of this album considers the last three tracks to be ā€˜canon’ for want of a better word. I wonder what the rationale is for the ā€œbonus trackā€ thing

This has not arrived and I am disappointed. Glad you’re all giving it a good write-up though!

Did you get that lovely looking red variant? I’m so gutted I missed the preorder

I think I read that those 3 were written way before anything else on the LP and were originally meant for an EP.

Sunmer Girl was definitely presented as a one-off, but I think it works beautifully as a counterpoint to Los Angeles

Nah, just the CD. The red vinyl does look pretty sweet.

OK yeah, this is fucking great. Second or third best album of the year so far for me. Production is mint.

Still maintain that savage garden should get a co-write credit on Now I’m In It. And one of the other songs sounds like Down Under.

All That Ever Mattered scream is 10/10. Absolutely love a well recorded scream.

Reeling from this a bit. Can’t remember the last time an established rock band made a really good and interesting new album tbh. Must be years.

They were never bad, but the leap in quality is astounding. I am getting frustrated that none of my friends (the ones who already liked Haim) seem to be making as big a deal of this album as I am!

I think there’s a divide between people who liked Something To Tell You and those who were disappointed by it; I don’t know anyone who likes Haim who didn’t like that album, so the fact that their third album is the best thing they’ve ever done is just sort of… expected.

I remember eveyone in my immediate social group were all about Haim. Then that 2nd album dropped and everyone stopped listening to them and we didn’t even realise they had a new album coming until Friday. Safe to say we all disliked the 2nd album.

I wonder if the HAIM fans who disliked it just stopped talking about HAIM (like me and my friends did) which is why you never came across any people proclaiming to be HAIM fans hating on the album. I totally wrote them off as a one album wonder after that record (glad I was proven wrong)
