šŸŽµ How Good Are They Really šŸŽµ Eminem

@sean can you move DiS into the Minecraft cloud? This sounds productive.

Not sure anyone except perhaps the very earliest in the series has had a pass on that. Feels like this conversation comes up every time someone mildly controversial comes up; even Blur got rated down by people because of the bassist’s cheese habit. (Tory mates)

I do find his level of success intriguing. He’s 10 albums in, seems to receive a critical shrug at best and yet his latest album was a massive success especially in the U.S. I’m guessing he really has the ā€˜buys one hip hop album a year’ market sewn up.

I love Blur but I can accept that that the members of Blur really are the thing that holds them back most.

It is, and it’s one that could make for a very interesting discussion. Maybe I just read your initial comment the wrong way idk. I think the way it’s framed has a lot to do with it. I think I’m less comfortable with Eminem’s sexism etc because a lot of the time it’s set in a glib, comedic fashion and surrounded by jokes about butts and that. I know that’s not great on my part but it’s a personal thing I think, what you’re willing to accept as part of a verse or rhyme in context and what you’re not.

Not a well, building a massive fucking fort actually, might launch it on the Classified board later.

sorry for acting the dick xylo

Because, rightly or wrongly, human beings are wired to find ā€œviolent statement against vague notionā€ easier to stomach than ā€œviolent statement against specific individualā€

Lol. Have you read the same guy’s Roots Manuva Pitchfork review? Think it may actually be worse. Reckon the guy just must walk round kind of bent over in a kind of permanent cringe state these days. Either that or he’s working at the White House

Oh completely - would absolutely agree - just think they’re a good example of how everything is rated down by some people for the most trivial reasons in this series, post say the Radiohead vote.

how did you explain this to a child?

Lady time has been bad to this one. His best albums are difficult to listen to because of the lyrical content and everything from Encore onward is either kinda mediocre or downright atrocious.

Scored a 3 for the first 2 records and the 8mile stuff. Encore was one of the most disappointing records I ever heard in my life, and it’s REALLY bad. But some how ā€˜Revival’ is even worse than this. He’s completely lost it and out of touch.

I actually thought Marshall Mathers 2 was a decent LP though

is that the imaginary conversation with krs? didn’t realise it was the same guy but it figures, absolutely atrocious

#bars tbh

technically a very proficient rapper, but a fat-shamer. On balance, will have to give 2/5

Properly properly shite.

Infantile nonsense, responsible for some of the worst music out there.

Also seems a proper bell end

That’s the one. Pretty incredible that hip hop is one of Pitchfork’s main focuses now. Their early rap reviews were beyond terrible
