the status quo of metal
Having a good time arenāt they. Found a niche and delivered. Maiden were always what i thought metal was - the sound, the imagery, the silly devil/monsters stuff.
Seemed like pretty much every 12 - 14 year old boy was into Maiden when I was at school in the 80s. They were like a gateway transitional band though that introduced kids to their own music but which seemed to be moved on from pretty quickly.
Awful of course but I kind of like that they exist and I like that people like them. Canāt believe they exist, incredibly successfully, after the 80ās though.
I was insulted from the stage by the singer from an Iron Maiden tribute band once who said I looked like Nick Frost.
1/5
Was never into them, but was dragged to see them on a housemateās stag do, as he was a huge fan. Converted.

Being Born in the mid 70ās my school years throughout the 80ās were woven by the sounds of The Cure, Prince and Iron Maiden. Iāve always had a fondness for Iron Maiden. I donāt think theyāve been recognised enough by the British Music Press.
In fact when the Brits do the outstanding contribution to Music award why have Iron Maiden not been right up there?! The Brits are shit but thatās one award they should get right. Depeche Mode too. They should be right up there.
Anyway back to Maiden. Incidentally why when referring to metal bands do we refer to them by their last name eg. Priest, Sabbath, Maiden etc
I like their music I like their attitude and commitment to their brand and their fans. They are always solid. When my son was 8 years old he used to have his alarm for school as āCan I play with Madnessā we were in the next door bedroom. Eventually it freaked my wife out so much he had to change it!
Dadās musical influence though.
Iām gonna give a 4 as although my tastes have changed I still have a soft spot for them.
Incidentally does anyone miss Bruce Dickinsons 6 music show?
I repeat, the worst artwork in history
Obviously Iām not actually scoring them 1/5. Theyāre a clear 5. Totally over the top, massive singalongs, that run of albums up to Fear Of The Dark is incredible. The perfect air guitar band. The singer from High On Maiden can still fight me though.
Dreadful band, just all the bad and cheesy things about metal wrapped up in a neat little package. At least theyāre in on the joke, I think.
Quite impressive how one of the axe men in Maiden formed a band with the scatter from Sikth and it turned out to be massively boring
Iām a big fan of the fact their guitarists wear their own merch when they play live ![]()
Great days playing Carmageddon 2 listening to Man on the Edge, Aces High, The Trooper and Be Quick or Be Dead on repeat as they were the only 4 songs on the soundtrack.
Only seen them once, at Sonisphere in 2014 for the Maiden England tour and they were incredible, just so much fun. Was jumping around with my best mate knocking back cans and having the best time. The delight on Nicko McBrainās face when heās playing the drums is heartwarming.

Would have voted for The Wicker Man or Flight of Icarus, fucking love those songs.
5 out of 5, obviously. Gonna blast Maiden all day now, great choice, Funky.
Itās a 5 from me, a big silly 5.
Used to love em when I was at school.
Still got a soft spot for some of their stuff and there is some good stuff in there, but a lot of it is quite naff and a bit silly really.
Itās about time I gave them another re-listen actually. Although Iām worried theyāll be worse than I remember em being.
Hovering between a 3 and 4 (given em 4).

We sometimes have the Iron Maiden best of in the car becauseā¦itās good driving music. I like to sing āYOU REALISE YOUāRE LIVING WITH THE GOLDEN GIIIRRRRLSā in the chorus of Wasted Years which really annoys my wife.
A serious point about Iron Maiden - even on their early stuff the production is BANGING. The thing that puts me off a lot of 80s metal is how tinny and shit it sounds but they always managed to be really full and warm.
