Two 5/5s in a row Funkman?

Started learning some of Cohen’s songs for my GF at the weekend and am reeling still at the craft he put in. Not a chord or a word out of place. Incredible song construction.

Personal favourite from my teenage years, the utterly bats ‘Jazz Police’.

Big blind spot for me. Going to abstain, but will be paying attention to what people have to say and will reinvestigate later

Anyone voting 4 or lower is a massive fucking idiot I’m afraid

T’old Leonard performing Stranger Song in a turtleneck on TV in 1967 with a single tear rolling down his cheek is, as the kids say, a big mood.

can’t give him a 5 as it feels wrong to award the same score as dylan when, as great as he is, i have such a clear preference. so i’ll give him a 4, the same as girls aloud

You Want It Darker is a cracking album.

Ooof. Could be a genuine contender for the top spot. (Then again I thought that about the Ramones and look how that turned out).

11/5 obviously.

Like bits of all his stuff but those first two albums… :ok_hand:

Should probably dock him a point for death of a ladies man but I wont.

A clear and obvious five. Even his awfully produced 80s albums are packed with tunes. Seeing him at Glastonbury in 2008 was a proper life highlight.

Hallelujah is pure, pure shit though.

Is he Jeff Buckley’s dad or something?

Obv a great and got into him as a teenager through my dad but barely listened to him at all for 10 years

Remember binging the hell out of the Live in London album when it came out, it’s 2 and a half hours long with gospel backing and I got a bit obsessed with it

Easy 5 again. There’s lots of charm to be found in each period of his career. Think New Skin For The Old Ceremony is my favourite. Was one of the only CDs in my car for a long time and it was great for a good ol’ wail along.

This track gives me chills.

Dull voice

His best songs are as good as or better than anyone elses best songs. Easy 5/5

Even if death of a ladies man (and not just that, tbf) is basically a carry-on film

We used to play a drink along version of that album where you drink every time he thanks or introduces a member of his band. Sounds benign but you get absolutely blitzed. Think he introduces all dozen of them during Anthem.

That’s part of why I loved it, found his stage patter so warm and relaxing. Someone should make an ASMR video of it
