COME ON, DIS!

THEY’RE BOTH A FIVE!

I won’t vote, but I have always found this forum’s obsession with them perplexing.

4 for McLusky, they have some amazing songs but for some reason I can’t stand FotL. They just bore me. I’ve never managed to get through one of their albums.

The latter FotL albums became a bit ‘Falco doing his schtick for me’ but they’re still a lot of the fun and Curses/Travels are still superb.

He’s a fucking funny guy though. Me and my mate still reference some of his put downs during live sets:

“I see Games Workshop kicked out early tonight” in response to some overly enthusiastic teenagers

“Fucking Michael Owen, what a c**t. I hope he only dreams in Lego”

Two 5s

Sorry for the annoying humblebrag, but I was lucky enough to work on The Peace and Truce* and got to speak with Falco and Julia a fair bit as part of it. Just want to state for the record that they are both really lovely human beings

My fav record is probably How To Stop Your Brain, these 3 songs are perfection

*This was when I worked as a campaign manager at [redacted crowdfunding platform]. At the same time as working on this I was also working on this campaign which was a fun juxtaposition

4 and 5. Both could be 5s but i like FOTL a bit more. I find them a bit more interesting and diverse

Can do no wrong, for me.

Lovely people, to boot. (carefully placed comma there)

Oh, and:

Do dallas
She will only bring you happines
how to stop your brain
Stand by your manatee (what a fun song)

4 for Mclusky. Think they’re pretty great, but not quite all timers. Don’t listen to them much now, but enjoy chucking Dallas on every now and again.

3 for FotL I guess. Some good stuff, but never quite hit me in the same way. Dunno why really. maybe a bit of Falco fatigue.

I have nothing I can say about either of these bands. Think I saw FOTL supporting Carter USM once. The songs I have heard on the Music League playlists have been fine but never inspired me to want to listen further.

Abstain

I find the wackiness forced and annoying.

That ‘Colin is a pussy’ song is Bloodhound Gang levels of humour but cause its FOTL it gets a pass

two bands i checked out years ago because of the huge outpouring of love on DiS. both did nothing for me, well i preferred mclusky a bit.
As said that was many years ago, bout time i went back and gave them both a spin again.

Mclusky have lots of good tunes but the “grumpy yet verbose English fella” shtick does not travel well at all lol

4 for Mclusky
2 for FOTL

I like them, Mclusky more than FOTL, but I don’t love them. Falco has a better way with words than he does a tune.

two 4s for me. love the stuff i love, but FOTL especially just have too many albums that i’ve never managed to get into.

Mclusky* was one of the last gigs I went to before lockdown, was actually quite disappointing (although I later found out Falco was properly ill at the time) but it was still good to hear those songs live. Think Do Dallas is pretty much perfect, there’s not a second of wasted space on it. I like the other two albums but Do Dallas is worth a 5 all by itself.

Never summoned the energy to listen to FotL so will abstain.

2 big 5s

thanks
