🎵 How Good Are They Really 🎵 Neil Young

wait a sec, theres some underrated rockabilly tracks on ‘everybodys rockin’. Jelly roll man, Bright Lights, Big City.

EDIT: But your right, Neil’s fuck you to Geffen

I reckon Hejira is an excellent and accessible album to start with.

Blue’s an all time classic, but very sad. Good headphone record for some late night introspection though.

Heart Of Gold is my favourite song. Out of them all, by anyone.

Ha, I find it very tongue in cheek! Bit like Iggy Pop’s record Party which is also deliberately half arsed and a tad lame but still had some underappreciated gems. Think it was Tim Pope’s video for Wonderin’ that got me to investigate further:

It’s never gonna be anyone’s favourite Young record but I like it’s simple Doo Wop pleasures :slightly_smiling_face:

Just associate him with six-hour versions of Rockin’ In A Free World. Thought he was a figurehead of stodgy dad-rock, a staple of Jeremy Clarkson drive-compliation CDs released for father’s day.

Will listen to Harvest before voting, but he’s a 2 atm.

Reckon he might’ve written too many songs

Sadders, please remind us of the score that you gave to Queen.

Love Gene Clark so much. Never made it as big as he should have really

Gave them a high score cos they’re way more than the dad-rock associations, which I why I’m not voting for NY until I’ve heard the album that’s being recommended.

There is that tongue in cheek element to it but it’s the last Neil Young album I’d ever think to put on (though I do have it on LP!). This is the version of ‘Wonderin’’ that I love to bits.

Cheers both, will give Hejira a go. Will also have the advantage over Blue of not being unfavourably compared to Weezer.

I’d love a 6 hour version of Rockin’ in the Free World

I cannot describe how much I love Neil Young.

I remember watching him open the US leg of Live Aid and thinking “who is this weird country guy that I’ve never heard of?”, yet two years later I was a fully paid-up member of the Neil Young fan club and was getting quarterly fanzines sent to me in the post by a guy in the US somewhere.

His music is the place I go when I want to be on my own. After over 30 years I occasionally think I’ll get bored of him but I never do.

The line “Think I’ll pack it in and buy a pickup, take it down to LA” is the reason I did a road trip across the US. When I was having a shit time at work, listening to “gotta get away from this day to day running around, everybody knows this is nowhere” on the way home used to cheer me up. I started playing guitar because of Neil Young.

If I could only listen to one artist ever again it would be Neil Young.

I’ve beeb driving all day so couldn’t post earlier, which is a good excuse to post my favourite Neil obscurity:

5/5, easily my favourite artist. Cortez the Killer is probably his best song for me, On the Beach probably his best album although there are 5 or 6 strong candidates. Saw him play On the Beach (the song) live a couple of weeks ago, still can’t believe my luck!

Absolutely love this version of Helpless, from when he was deep in his country phase (so ignore the waistcoat)

I found it on the Rock n Roll Cowboy bootleg, which is essential for diehard NY fans. Some of it has come out on Archives releases since, but there’s a lot that hasn’t

He’s just brilliant. These are the Neil young albums that I own. What else do I urgently NEED? Bear in mind that I am not made of money.
