šŸŽµ How Good Are They Really šŸŽµ The Cribs

Wrote them off for years with all the other landfill indie lot, and yer man with the funny haircut being on everything, and then I realised I really like them, and the funny haircut one is actually very funny

4 I reckon

And why has no-one else listened to for all my sisters? Clearly their best record.

See them a bit like The Charlatans actually in that they have outlived the scene they were originally part of and continued making decent music and being great live for a prolonged period of time

Talk a good game, cite all the right influences, make some crushingly mediocre records. Probably a 2, but I once got seconded to Wakefield for a couple of months through work and I hated it, so a 1 it is.

I like to think this is the Cribs even though it isnt

Fair dos if they’re your thing, but despite them seeming like a GBOL when I’ve seen/heard them being interviewed, their continued success absolutely baffles me.

Another ā€˜wrote them off as weak indie fodder but actually they’re decent’ here. Probably 3 as although I do enjoy hearing them, I rarely actively reach for their stuff.

I’ve got nothing against the band - they seem decent and down to eath from what little I know of them. But the best thing I can say about them musically is at least their songs don’t tend to stick around in my head for long.

Probably fine for belting out drunkenly after being booted out the pub - and a lot of their songs sound like that’s how they were recorded. Most songs I’ve heard are just very pedestrian indie with the occasional random bit of drunken shouting added in.

I feel a bit bad about giving them a 1 as I really don’t hate them at all, but I don’t think I could find it in me to go any higher.

I’m probably in the minority here but I did not enjoy that album they did with him.

Do you know what, I hear loads about them on here but never actually investigated. Would I like them?

Any album recommendations?

Mens Needs, Womens.Needs, Whatever will probably give you the best idea of whether they’re for you or not. I reckon you’ll quite like them actually.

yeah the album with johnny marr is easily their weakest. it started out as an EP and they kept writing, there’s a strong EP in there but the album does very little for me

men’s needs women’s needs whatever rules and is one of my favourite ever albums :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Very good band imo.

The kind of music where I genuinely don’t understand it’s appeal. It sounded annoying when it came out and, having just listened again just now, is still annoying in the year of our Lord 2022.

It’s music like this that stopped me listening to the radio regularly (XFM was the only station I listened to), so I guess it had its usefulness haha

apparently it is them unless its just a wind up on them claiming it

being from Wakefield I took against them quite a bit cause they were EVERYWHERE. There’s a star with their name on it on the Wakefield Walk of Fame but they are good arent they.

See the drummer about quite a bit

Cheers funkman and vine, I’ll give a listen.
