He’s an alien.
Can’t wait for the seethe this is gonna generate when it beats The X-Files and Lost.
oh god just remembered the end of the film where he puts a poster of the painting in the frame and has the actual whistlers mother in his bedroom with a stupid face drawn on it
ah I see
yes - the character of Mr Bean is not beyond criticism (he should not have got his head in that turkey for example, or attempted to dive off a high board when he is a total novice diver)
That film has a superb bit of “normal person being mistaken for a doctor and being called to surgery” comedy which, as we all know, is literally always funny.
I should also add I’m only talking about the Mr Bean TV series
I’ve never seen the films and they might be awful and racist for all I know

That’s pretty harsh on @xylo
I’m excited to watch Mr Bean with my niece and nephew now actually. It should properly crack them up which will be really good and nice.
When we had my wife’s aunt staying over who doesn’t speak ANY English we thought the best thing to do was to stick Mr Bean on (my wife had the DVDs for some reason) for the evening. So that was useful.
Not great telly although it serves a purpose I suppose. This scene is the only one I remembered being especially amusing Mr. Bean Doesn't Know How to Tip | Mr. Bean Official - YouTube
Where’s the option for ‘I tried this pretty much immediately after watching this episode for the first time’?
Cos’ I would definitely not be ticking that obviously…
Always thought it was strange that they got a full police escort to the hospital just before that scene.
The film is basically a textbook example of the “absolute nightmare individual comes to live with a family in the time immediately preceding a major event in the family patriarch’s professional life (the rest of the family, much to the patriarch’s consternation, think the nightmare individual is fun), and hilarity ensues” genre. Other examples would be What About Bob? and Beethoven.
Did you know the theme song to the tv series translates from Latin as "Behold the man who is a bean" in the opening titles and "Farewell, man who is a bean" for the closing titles.
Watched episode 1 again last month while kicking about on Netflix, it opens with a painfully unfunny sketch, but the second sketch is the getting changed on the beach one and that was still good, so I gave it a three out of five (better luck next time)
I feel like this genre needs a snappier title
One of the film buffs might know of one.
Well I am amazed, not even the movie when he goes to France?
And the advert breaks had ‘End of Part One’ and ‘Part Two’ in latin as well.
Nope, shite like this and Benny Hill can do one.
Mr Bean’s Holiday is the real mis-step in the series - disturbingly unfunny.
Does feature Antoine de Caunes daughter as the female lead however ![]()
