This is good and I’m starting a thread so I stop annoying @HannahIngramMoore by messaging her directly about it.
Initially wrote it off as too American, but I’ve slowly been won over, and now I love it. Really enjoying the latest UK series. They go to Milton Keynes!
It’s like Amazing Race / Race Across the World but more fun, less manufactured, and more strategic. And they’re three very nice left-wing lads. There’s a different type of game each season too, this one is hide and seek bit they play tag (sic), capture the flag etc, but always with a twist and a different location
Been on a similar journey with these lads. They’re good eggs and their show is fun, but it took me a while to get past their butchering of place names and the American style snack food they eat everywhere.
Sort of want to play their hide and seek myself, but don’t want to spend hours sitting under a bridge waiting to be found
They directly attack the bacon sandwich in the new series and it made me want them dead.
Think they’re pretty fair on the UK in general though. Would love to play hide and seek but it’d cost a bomb, that’s my concern more than sitting under bridges (I do that anyway)
I have unlimited travel on Dutch trains at the weekend, so could do it. Might try and muster a group for it when it’s warmer out - the Netherlands is a good shape/size for a game
I am an absolute evangelist for The Lads aka Sam, Ben and Adam. My friend recommended season 13 (which features Tom Scott as a guest), I was LOCKED IN by the second episode where they have to play Ode To Joy in the correct pitch without using musical instruments.
You definitely don’t need to watch all the series or watch them in order! Earlier season episodes tend to last 20-30 mins, more recent seasons are more like 40-60 minutes.
Some of the links to the different game formats:
Hide and Seek (Switzerland, Japan - my personal favourite Jet Lag series - and UK)
Tag across Europe
Races (Race around the world, North-South of New Zealand, North-South of USA)
‘Claiming’ states/countries
If I die, play the Snack Zone music ( ) at my funeral and I will instantly be resurrected.
Oh man I’m so excited by the prospect of DiSers reaching a higher level of enlightenment and becoming locked in Jet Laggers
Mostly so I can post ranking lists here (guest star ranking, series ranking, Ben outfit ranking, Adam disguise ranking, Sam’s terrible luck ranking) and other people experience the pure joy of the Okaihau Express challenge in the New Zealand series
Also they have a home game version of Hide and Seek which my friend has bought for me and I’m very excited to play it over the summer in London. I bet we could get a DiS game of hide and seek sorted
Still to watch
Hide and Seek UK (5 epis in) - gonna be rated v highly
Hide and Seek Switzerland (2 eps in) - also gonna be rated v highly
AU$TRALIA
Tag Eur It 3
Hide and Seek NY
SnaKe
Tag All Stars
Generally not as big a fan when they’re mainly in cars, or when there’s a guest, or when they’re in the US.
The guests have all been pretty bland for me (including Tom Scott, and I like the guy). Toby actively grated on me. Michelle is the only one I’ve enjoyed and I am in love with her.
Any time anyone gets drunk but especially Michelle explaining sex to the bird and Adam calling his girlfriend
Okaihau Express
The Snack Zone
Using Sam’s money to buy Tinder Gold
Eating glow worms
Running into John Green randomly in Paris
Ben’s first go at hiding in Switzerland
Ben sending them to Zug 3 times
Ben’s clothes
Ben casually suggesting to call in a bomb threat to stop Adam’s train
Ben hiding in the photo booth
Ben making mayo on top of a bin down an alley
Ben being a goof when he’s in a team but a killer when he’s on his own
Ben in general
Some fascinating takes here! i’m shocked by the rating of Race to the End of the World and that you don’t like Toby. Capture the Flag is my least fave I think, Circumnavigation and Snake also not great.
they have said they don’t want to do another car-based season so you’re in luck there. not sure what the format will be for S17 but it was filmed in Taiwan a month or two back
my guest ranking:
Toby - knitting a tie for a challenge in New Zealand is one of the most goated ways they’ve ever completed a challenge. Jet Lag royalty
Michelle - the Zodiac Zone is very in line with my creative vision and I love how driven she is
Brian - would
Scotty from Capture the Flag - he seems like a sweet guy
Tom Scott - very neurotic and highly strung, which is v relatable but not necessarily the most fun to watch
Joseph from Circumnavigation - brought absolutely nothing imo
this was a good one. i haven’t watched loads but it is ideal to have on in the background while im
working. when it’s boring good god is it boring though
