Last.fm general thread

Lots of old last.fm threads for specific things like yearly stats and games, but nothing for general chat I could find.

Discuss features, praise, grievances, share your profile links, etc. Please use separate threads for yearly stats or other stat sharing or “games”.

Today last.fm has introduced new Pro tools:

  • Album edits and album edit rules
  • Preferred album artwork
  • Sort library by recency
  • New Pro Header and Playbar

Really stoked for album edit rules — removing things like “Remastered” one track at a time is a huge pain, plus the streamers often switch versions so you have to do it over again sometimes.

Not sure about sorting library by recency, will have to try it out as I don’t really know what they mean.

Woah! When was the last time they introduced anything new? Must be at least a few years. I sort of thought they were letting it just quietly die off.

Tempting…

It’s my 20 year last.fm anniversary in January. I love it and I’m going to be so sad the day it dies.

Oh thank god. Dunno if it’ll affect the weekly grids or not, but I was griping about shitty lo-res album covers the other day and the inability to change them because of all the historic likes.

Love it and hate it equally. Stokes my weird obsession with listening stats that I spend much too much time on.

My biggest issue with it is how weak the API is. You’ve never been able to pass an artist and track parameter to it, or filter your list of tracks by a single artist. I’d have gone pro a long time ago if you could.

Which is a good thing, in a way.

I’ve got a spreadsheet with my top 500 overall artists at the end of each year, so I can see the rise and fall of each artist :cowboy_hat_face::nerd_face: it’s a fucking THRILL let me tell you

Following others isn’t as interesting as it used to be, without the social feed of the past. But here’s mine anyway: @sidewinder03

I’m on @culture with deluxe added on

I like it for when I’m getting into a new artist. I check which albums ma pals are liking with the Listeners You Know feature. Often super useful for a bit of guidance.

Ahhhhhh the edit album feature is gonna be so useful! Editing each individual tracks can be incredibly (read: slightly) time consuming.

There will still be a little part of my brain that’ll be thinking “I need to edit this NOW” whilst listening to an album I need to edit, though :upside_down_face:

Actually really need to start paying again, cos Tidal can’t scrobble tracks credited to more than one artist properly and I really want to be able to fix that.

Awful awful awful

I love last.fm because scrobbling made me listen to music pretty much every spare minute I had and I’m still the same 17 years on. Weird how gamifying music listening, by sharing your stats, changes your behaviour. Weirder still to think I only used to listen to a couple of albums or so a day before that.

I’m a Pro subscriber because of the editing feature (mmmmmm clean stats) but also because I’m petrified it will go down the tubes.

Closing in on 500,000 scrobbles!
