Christ they are still going? Wow.

Hoping that this has arrived in the post for me when I get home this evening…

This is good! Big fan of concise releases and it’s well-executed post-rock.

New single from Squarepusher is good. Quite hyped for his upcoming album in a way I haven’t been for the last few.

I’m really trying with this Georgia album. But i’ll be honest… finding it really annoying. Shame, I really liked her first one.

Yeah, it’s very easy to kick them - but they are a classic case of their very first song being their very best, and everything after being a copy of a copy. For me, the best bits of the two albums makes a fine ten track, but each is too samey to really sustain itself separately.

Would like to catch them live at some point though.

Only got one release lined up so far, Rafael Anton Irisarri and Leandro Fresca, Una Presencia En La Brisa - ā€œHaunting yet heavenly, widescreen and wintery deep ambient scapesā€ apparently.

Haven’t heard the album but really disliked t he tone of that review - they had a link to show that they get criticised by their peers and it was literally a link to twitter posts that said the words ā€œbeach slang sucksā€. All from random people, no other bands like they implied, and some of the posts even said things like - oh no I won’t be able to see beach slang tour, that sucks!, which obviously isn’t a negative post.

Grumble grumble pitchfork blah

That Pitchfork Beach Slang twitter thing is really weird. Could do that for literally any band.

I thought the first Beach Slang album was as good as the EPs. Ended up not listening much to the second. Not because it was bad but because it was more of the same, just not quite as good. Still been looking forward to the new on though, so let’s see…

You’d think Ian Cohen would learn his lesson on getting personal and nasty with artists…

The Just Joans - The Private Memoirs and Confessions of The Just Joans

Seventh album by the Scottish legends, contains ecstatic highs of jump around pop and subtle contemplative soul searching to bring you down again.

This sounds brilliant. Just ordered the CD.

They fell off my radar after their third album but this is top, top stuff.

Absolutely loved American Adventure and the Human Body EP - Was amazed they never got a wider/critical recognition

This sounds great on first listen too

Used to LOVE him back when he was releasing Go Plastic and Ultravisitor. liked the jazzier bits, like the drillier bits, all great. then Hello Everything came out and it was just too, idk, maybe it did too much? I didn’t mind a few of the tracks on the one after that, but since, I’ve barely listened. I have however very much enjoyed the two singles from this, so I’m holding out hope that he might be back doing things I enjoy.

Enjoyed the Georgia album. I’m apprehensive about the Big Moon album. I really enjoyed their debut, but haven’t been taken by the singles from this one.

Elaborate, please?

Also - to give some context for those unfamiliar:

the duo’s first album in 7 years is an utter delight, boasting gently decadent wall-of-sound production and inviting vocal melodies.

it’s a record that nestles snugly within warm, emotional sentiments that hit home in their distinctly anthemic psychedelic pop balladry, with each song an immaculately crafted sonic event in its own right. fans of arctic monkeys’ ā€˜tranquility base hotel + casino’, doves and elbow will love it. ā€œā€™stages’ deals with the passing of thomas and alex’s mother. these 7 expansive tracks transcend their roots in grief, reaching through love, loss, mourning and hope, with the ambitious pallet of the electric soft paradeā€ – xs noise. Aye, Go Plastic is all-time top 10 for me. Hello Everything was one of the first times after I really got into music that one of my fave artists released a new album. So much excitement, so much disappointment. Of the recent ones, ufabulum is alright but the drop-off after Ultravisitor has been quite something.

Various. Not that I’m a huge fan but, from interviews, his Gaslight Anthem review essentially broke up the band - but the one I can’t forgive was his review of the last Frightened Rabbit album where he was unnecessarily personal, essentially scoffing at Scott’s depression, implying it was cynical pandering done for effect.

From the Beach Slang review:

"The announcement of lead single ā€œBam Rang Rangā€ā€”basically a repeat of ā€œAtom Bomb,ā€ except twice as long for some reason—accompanied a run of dates opening for the Goo Goo Dolls, a band whose pre-ā€œNameā€ Westerberg cosplay is a more apt reference point for Beach Slang than the Mats themselves. "

Incomprehensible.
