Single from another Aesop Rock project, it’s alright.

Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs new album is great. FFO bands that’s name sounds like stoner sludge doom metal but are actually Japanese shoegazey psych alt-rock.

Wow, had never heard of them before, thanks for posting this. Usually I struggle with the first listen of anything but this had me the whole time. Really enjoyed the surprise blasts of heaviness and the dentist drill solos - that jangly intro does not prepare you for what’s coming.

I’m just listening to the s/t album now and it’s immense!

Going to have to try that next after I process this one. I love finding hidden gems like this, the year has felt kind of short on good heavy stuff that doesn’t quite belong in the heavy thread.

So good

Heilung - Drif

The trio from Denmark, Norway and Germany takes inspiration from ancient civilisations using historical inscriptions, Roman military poems, Celtic battles and rune spells for lyrical inspiration and archaic instrumentation from rattles and ritual bells to human bones and throat singing to create their third album of…folk-post-rock? Ambient black metal?

Woah, not thought about MotFD for ages! Used to love them. Going to stick this on today, cheers!

Yep, excellent recommendation, love this.

I don’t need any time to process. I am obsessed with this band right off the mark

Absolute bliss.

I caved and just listened to the whole EP, it’s fantastic. Love how quickly they can switch from dreamy to extremely aggressive, and it doesn’t feel forced at all. What a great discovery.

That spielbergs album has grown on me a lot. Some engaging riffs and fucking great drumming. Vocals and nothingy lyrics (i assume as they’re even harder to make out than the debut) might be a bit divisive for some.

Didn’t get round to posting in this thread, feel I need to right that. Here’s what else caught my eye week of 19th.

Saul - Mutualism

Summery beat-drive soulful nu-jazz. Saul: good, man.

Julia Wolfe & Sō Percussion - Forbidden Love

4 percussionists playing string quartet. What?

Barre Phillips & György Kurtág Jr. - Face à Face

12 short improvisational experimental jazz pieces. This is a duet between 87 year old jazz bassist Phillips and relative youngster (68-year old) Kurtag Jr, a composer and researcher of electronic music. The pieces are unusual amorphous but they have a really intriguing dream-like quality, particularly so through headphones. It’s maybe more sound art than music to be fair, but I was listening to it last night on headphones and really enjoyed it.

Angel Deradoorian, Dylan Fujioka and Patrick Shiroishi - Basic Flowers

24 minute first time free-jazz collaboration with piano, drums and saxophone from a trio of talented experimental musicians.

Clemens Kuratle & Ydivide - Lumumba

Swiss drummer and band leader Kuratle leads a quintet of promising artists from the Swiss and UK jazz scene.

DEEP LEARNING - Evergreen

Polyrhythmic electronic pieces inspired by walks with the artist’s son in Epping forest. Has a feel of an English counterpart to Susumu Yokota’s The Boy and the Tree.

Larry June - Spaceships on the Blade

Really solid West coast rap. Production across the record is great.

This is a nice jazz/ambient thing.

Two late entries from here in Sheffield…

Regal Worm - Worm!

Jarrod Gosling (of Cobalt Chapel / I Monster) with this second Regal Worm album of proggy psych weirdness.

Isis Moray - Grow

Inaugural release on Holy Crow Records by label founder Isis Moray. EP of dark electro folk.

Ta. Should’ve searched. I think it’s good too.

Relieved to see that I hadn’t ticked it on the poll so at least I hadn’t forgotten I’d already listened to it.
