Finding this pretty painful to get through, haven’t really disliked a US Girls album before but she sounds out of ideas

Oh the mix on this is just delicious. What a sound.

Glad it’s not just me, gave it a listen and first impressions were like “Didn’t I used to really like her music?”

Yeah, gave it a play.It wasn’t good sounding like Texas b sides.

I was going to share this myself yesterday…but I don’t think it’s available to stream yet? So maybe just a physical release at this point…

That’s a real shame, especially as she really hit her stride with Half Free and, to a lesser extent, In A Poem Unlimited. Haven’t really listened to her work since Heavy Light, and, based upon the reaction to this new one, I don’t know if I’ll be tempted to change that.

A return to the minimalist noise of her early releases?

I feel like they nailed this sound on their previous record, but the songwriting on this one is significantly better.

Little Mazarn - Mustang Island

This sounds so much like early 90s Saint Etienne, in a good way.

I bounced right off it on first listen. Must give it another go.

There’s a bad way?

She said that Saint Etienne “has been one of my favorite bands lately, and they sample a lot of old tunes to get these beautiful orchestral movements. I tried to achieve that kind of sound using string synths with lots of tape emulators and distortion to get that old grit.”

The album could have sounded like a copy of a copy, especially as some of the drum loops are so familiar, but it’s a great reinterpretation, I reckon… Saint Etienne vibes but more dream pop.

This is good! I’m a fan of Carrying and initially feared that an album of folk drone instrumentals might lose what I enjoyed about her previous works, but no, it’s a perfect soundtrack to a slow sunday.

Absolutely loving this, feels like elements/vibes of Foxbase, So Tough, Tiger Bay & even Good Humor.
