Whatcha got for today then?
I got nuthin’.
Whitelands - Sunlight echoes
Shoegaze I reckon
There’s a new Joyce Manor album for fans of two min blasts of singalong indie
Joyce Manor - I Used To Go To This Bar
Lande Hekt - Lucky Now
New one from ex Muncie Girls vocalist. Jangly indie pop, self reflective lyrics. I do like their stuff.
Been excited for this but it’s quite polished compared to their debut and I’m not sure I like. I can hear what they’re saying FFS!!!?
Leisure Hour - …and to think
Midwest emo out of Indiana. Second record. They’ve been dripping this record for a while and Jenny is a good song.
Girls Against Boys - Cruise Yourself
Not a new release per se - but a newly remastered version of their 1994 album.
FFO of two bassist, disco influenced, post-hardcore, sleaze.
Blackwater Holylight - Not Here Not Gone
Doomy swirling psych FFO Windhand, Dead Meadow etc
MØL - DREAMCRUSH
Blackgaze ffo Deafheaven, Agriculture….uhh other Blackgaze bands
Laura Cannell - The Medieval Drone Society
It’s been nearly two months since Laura Cannell’s last album came out so about time we got a new one (though tbf she’s also had a couple of compilations of older stuff released since December’s Brightly Shone The Moon came out so she’s not been slacking). This new album takes “13th century monophony as a starting point for improvisation and drone” using cello and bass recorder.
Urne - Setting Fire To The Sky
Sludgy riffy metal FFO Mastodon, Conjurer, Cult Of Luna maybe?
Cordovas - Back to Life
American country rock music. their last album is still on frequent rotation round these parts, so excited to give this a go.
Hania Rani - Sentimental Value
Modern classical. The Polish artist’s original music for Joachim Trier’s Cannes-winning film, Sentimental Value.
New Cordovas is exciting to see opening the thread!
Marta Del Grandi - Dream Life
Enjoying this one from Italian singer-songwriter. Nice review on the Quietus:
In the great indie pop tradition, Dream Life masks melancholia with whimsy, whether it’s fantasy land synths, syncopated programmed beats, or slide guitar. The dreamy, brooding, and vaguely foreboding synth arrangement of ‘20 Days of Summer’ touches broadly on a feeling of not being able to laugh at the chaos, as Del Grandi reminds herself “to keep going / try to breathe”.
Even her more minimal compositions have a warmth to them, and Del Grandi’s breezy soprano fluctuates easily between elation and heartbreak.
One for @Funkhouser remember him liking the last outing.
My missus will probably like this for the opposite reason
I did! Cheers, will give this a go when I get to work.
Relatively big release day for me.
First up is new Yumi Zouma, very infectious 80s style indierock/synthpop, by way of London and NZ. Last record was a true banger and so are some of the lead singles from this, Bashville on the Sugar and Blister especially are real earworms.
Yumi Zouma - No Love Lost to Kindness
Then we got the new Softcult record, again liking the lead singles have slapped especially Pill to Swallow. Beautiful, ethereal, melancholic waves. Music for mall goths indeed.
Softcult - When A Flower Doesn’t Grow
Ye Vagabonds got a new one too, traditional Irish folk with dual male harmonies dragged into the 21st century with tales of drugs, crime and depression. Danny really tore me up this week so giving the whole record a good go.
Ye Vagabonds - All Tied Together
By Storm - My Ghosts Go Ghost
Experimental hip-hop from RiTchie and Parker Corey. They were in Injury Reserve with Stepa J. Groggs, who passed away in 2020.
