Thing is, I know in about a week’s time after these Treehouse events I’m gonna be ARRGGGHHHH I WANT THS
So, my thoughts…
Undecided right now on whether I’m in on day one. If I am, I’m definitely up for the Mario Kart edition. I wrote down “Mario Kart, now with hats” originally, but £35 looks like great value for it with what they’ve shown so far, and I suspect there’ll be a proper single player campaign when they show it off more on the 17th.
The hardware was pretty much everything I was expecting - although I did get a chuckle out of “more expressive rumble” given that we’ve already got “HD rumble” and given they tend to be stingy on memory I thought they’d go 128G instead of 256. Handy, as it means I don’t need to buy an SD card whenever I first buy the console. 3D sound was a surprise (and I thought the horse demo was a tease for a OoT remake later… it made me think of the intro)
Absolutely get why the consensus in here was pretty meh around everything behind the C button. As Ducky says… voice chat isn’t exactly a new feature, but ultimately that section of the direct was aimed at people who aren’t used to the XBox/PS ecosystems. (Same goes with the kinda stupid pixelated view of Mario to show off 1080p… they’re trying to explain to non-gamer parents and the like what more pixels means in 5 seconds, not show the difference to us)
Gameshare is also nothing new - they had it on the DS, but it’s a nice touch that they’ve brought it back. Gamecube might be the feature that gets me to upgrade to NSO+. Surprised they’ve included it - both because of game size and that stuff like F Zero GX is begging for a £50 remaster.
Sofware-wise, it’s bizarre the manual thing isn’t a free pack-in title or included in NSO… I can only assume it’s because they wanted to do the MK bundle and didn’t want to include two bits of software. It does look their best made demo title since Wii Sports, but there’s no way I’m paying for it.
Will probably give the Zeldas and Kirby a replay with their new versions if they’re included in NSO or a tenner - they’re good enough to justify the replays. Hyrule GPS is hilarious as a feature and it’s so very Nintendo that 8 years after launching the NSO app, they’re adding an 8 year old game to it as only the fifth title. Similarly, Pokemon ZA on new hardware just about looks like a cheaper Wii U title at last. Well done Gamefreak ![]()
It’s a wait and see from me on the other Nintendo titles right now. DragxDrive looks too much of a tech demo for my liking at the moment. Love the idea, but it’s lacking the style of Splatoon or Arms IMO. Curious at the moment about Kirby Air Riders, but it seems a misstep to put that in the launch window with MK World and DK Bananza hasn’t grabbed me with the immediacy of say Kirby 3D or Mario Odyssey.
More 3rd parties shown off today than I thought we’d see, but other than Soulsbourne Nintendo Edition, not too many outright surprises. Will need to see how stuff performs, reviews and is priced, but got my eyes on Witchbrook, Hitman, Yakuza 0, FF7 and Cyberpunk as things I might dip into.
Randy Pitchford was embarrassingly enthusiastic about Borderlands 4 and I’m curious what a new Astroneer IP looks like. I also admire Square calling it FF7 Remake Intergrade with no explanation of what that means. I’m all for the trend of ever more confusing JRPG titles.
So, if I’m getting this right, if i buy a switch 2 and am already a nintendo online subscriber, i get the upgraded versions of BOTW and TOTK for nowt as i already own them both? I’ve put 900 hours into them and am only holding off more replays for potential S2 improvements. And that’s not even considering everything else the S2 will have?
Yeah, they can take my money
Genuine decision required: play Elden Ring on my TV’s PS5 or wait for the Switch 2 version
It got me the MK8 booster tracks plus all that snes, n64 etc games access i’ve barely touched, so I think that’s the higher tier?
Get it on PS5, it’s half price right now and you will love it (and hate it), exceptional game. Deep but accessible.
Yeah, that’s the one - you’re all set ![]()
I will finish Echoes of Wisdom first then make a decision ![]()
Can I tempt you to go into the Gameboy app and play Oracle of Seasons/Ages instead?
There is so much i should explore so perhaps i should
Like, i really should play Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask for the first time ever, for a start
Def ps5, it looks nice and almost runs smoothly.
reggiieeeee
Lol Silksong
lol Kirby’s Air Ride. I loved the original but it was rubbish
Duskbloods looks like the kind of game another studio would make if they were trying to rip off FromSoft
Mario Kart World looks sick
DK looks great too
thoughts:
dk game looks awesome
bloodborne 2 looks cool. fuck it being an exclusive obviously
i didn’t like the free roam thing in forza, so doubt i’ll enjoy that part in the new mario kart
reckon the chat/video sharing (10 fps mid 2000s quality) button thing will go down like a wet fart, same with the camera
hardware is pretty underwhelming - no mention of a joycon drift fix either
for a company that very rarely discounts its games, 90 euros is a piss take
the…guide to the console is a paid release!!!
the nintendo lads looked pretty miserable to me which doesn’t bode well
paid upgrade packs for backwards compatability titles is shit
that looks like a very uncomfortable mouse
thanks, I hated it.
I think the memesmiths will feast for some time on this direct tbh.
People expecting Bloodborne but on Nintendo may be disappointed because its a strcitly multiplayer game from the sounds of things
They absolutely won’t acknowledge it themselves - first we’ll probably know for sure is when someone gets hands on and does a teardown - but I took the talk of improved joycon smoothness as an allusion to them probably having switched to Hall Effect sticks.
