Pokémon Sword and Shield

Just one week away from the release of Sword and Shield now so this seems a good time to start a thread.

Let’s get the important questions out of the way first…

Played through most of a demo gym yesterday. The battles are absolutely Pokemon by numbers. Pokés are really nicely animated and the walk out into the stadium to battle the leader is a really nice moment. The gyms still have those awkward switches to get the right path through.

Knew I was gonna get this anyway, but 5 minutes hands on completely sold me.

Pokénot, though Sword is I finally get a switch ever. Probably Grookey, but maybe Scorbunny.

Hadn’t decided on a starter. Usually go for the grassy lad but will pick the currently unloved sobble. Been trying to stay away from spoilers/leaks but it’s taking real strength to not look up this Mr Mime evolution.

Mr Mime is a fucking bellend. Sick of the prick.

He’s obviously some kind of deviant.

I feel sorry for Sobble - not a bad starter by normal standards, but it’s the strongest trio in years.

Why are people choosing Shield? Swords are so obviously cooler than shields!

I agree with you but also Red is cooler than Blue

Currently alone in the Sword-Grookey combo genuinely don’t get this board sometimes

My position hasn’t changed on this since February

A few things:

  • Galarian Ponyta > Galarian Farfetched
  • A pokemon that IS a Shield > one that CARRIES a sword
  • Reuniclus > Gothitelle

All IMO, obviously.

Psyduck, Gengar and Farfetch’d and to hell with the rest

Gengar is such a cool guy

Takes one to know one.

Certainly has a firm handle on maintaining a state of being both sexy and mischievous

I would concur with this and would even go as far as to say that it’s a very insightful and good point to have made

I’m afraid Gengar analyses can only be perceived as inherent attributes of the people involved in them but ty nonetheless

I like the new Ponyta and Farfetch’d but the new guys look pure whack and I’m not overly impressed by the overworld from what I’ve seen and it looks like structure and features haven’t upgraded at all. Sun and Moon were pants, so I’m waiting this one out.

So long as it ditches all the handholding rubbish that made Sun and Moon unbearable I think this once could be decent? Doesn’t look anything revolutionary, played the demo at the poké centre earlier and it felt very normal pokémon from that brief glimpse, but if it is a fun region with spme character to it thst I like I think it’d win me over easily.
