Really big acts that have dropped off the cultural radar

They had a ceiling though - six top 13 singles, but never got in the top 10.

Still have their own independent multi-day festival (with a bunch of big-ish names and also Hard-Fi) and do a sold-out tour of thousand-cap venues every year, I think. They’re not ubiquitous but they definitely haven’t disappeared.

They still managed to sell out three consecutive nights at a venue near me in 2022.

Security?

Def Leppard. One of the largest selling bands of the 80s that just doesn’t exist now

Woah. Banjo.

Weirdly there are still stomp and holler acts that are massive, like that Noah whatshisface that no one you know has ever listened to but headlines massive festivals, so they could probably make a triumphant return to the banjo if they wanted

I was thinking something similar the other day about… INXS. compared to other bands as popular as them in the 90s, no one seems to mention them anymore. (Not saying that’s a bad thing mind)

Super Furry Animals haven’t really seemed to carry their legacy on much, unfortunately. Gone from being a pretty big band in their peak to quite a niche concern

Oh Badly Drawn Boy - was he genuinely popular? Did people like that sort of thing?

André Rieu

Played Wembley Stadium last year tbf :person_shrugging:

Apparently it sold…poorly :grimacing:

That seems incredibly ambitious

They’re certainly dressed that way.
