Really big acts that have dropped off the cultural radar

Not far from the 20 year nostalgia cycle for nu-rave. Going to be utterly miserable

they also headlined Camp Bestival this year so i guess they’re for the under-10s now

Some things don’t get picked up on the nostalgia cycle, and somehow I think nu-rave will be one of them. Doesn’t seem much appetite to go back there. Was also a very short period of time compared to what’s referred to as ‘indie sleaze’/maybe just lumped in with it ultimately

Fuck, just updated my bebo page and got my ‘make music not missiles’ t shirt out of the wardrobe. Was all ready to stick a cassette necklace on and listen to test icicles for some reason

I’m told he mainly plays football and sings in a wedding band now

another Camp Bestival band! but they were playing mid afternoon on the smaller stage to nobody :frowning:

are The Lumineers still a thing?

Yes I saw them in at Anne’s park a couple of years ago

They played the song that I know 2nd or 3rd in the set, but everyone else knew all the words to all their other songs?!

Oh yeah a work friend is really into them and went to that I think. I wasn’t sure whether he was an anomaly

My partner and I were chatting about Roxy Music, the other day. The kind of band that will always appear on ‘best of the 70s/80s’ lists, but don’t seem to have gained the same cultural longevity that other bands of that era have had?

With the caveat that it may just be down to my own curated echo chamber, I can’t remember hearing them on TV, on the radio or out in the wild in years. They’ve never had that renaissance that other bands have had either - No major remasters/deluxe editions/box sets of their albums to give them a boost.

Didn’t she sell 4 billion records in 2001 or something?

Something like that

As I think has been mentioned on these boards before, what with her brother’s Faithless royalties & her earnings, family Christmases must be stacked

Emelie Sande. Was a couple of years where she was warbling everywhere and havent seen her name for years now

The Offspring were absolutely huge from around 1994, well into the mid-2000s.

Apparently they released an album this year :man_shrugging:

Also - they’ve been going since 1984?!?

Green Day are on a similar road to complete irrelevance ever since their surprising second peak with American Idiot. So many albums that do not exist in the last decade.

Green Day are as big nowadays since those days tbf
