Rolling Hip-Hop Thread 2025

25 years into the 2000’s the old skool Hip-Hop mantra of “Hip-Hop Don’t Stop” seems more apt than ever, trying to keep up with all the new releases is at times hard work, in 2025 I’d like Rappers to chill a bit and focus on quality not quantity but 1 day into 2025 & there’s already new releases so I don’t think that chill is happening anytime soon…

What are your hopes for Hip-Hop/Rap in 2025, & what albums are you looking forward to?

Apologies to @CHAIRMAN_LMAO & @theShipment if I’m stepping on any toes starting this years thread.

Day 1.

New Cannibal Ox, it’s just Vast Aire nowadays & he’s even used part of his name as a pun in the title. This really should just be in his own name but I’m guessing more people (including myself) are willing to press play if it’s Can Ox. On first listen it’s not too bad.

Eldest child has started singing that Jiggle Jiggle rap that louis theroux made up on one of his documentaries. Apparently this is fortnite’s fault.

not sure what’s on the schedule other than carti and the saba / no i.d. joint, looking forward to glancing at both of those.

rocky too i guess, less interested in that though

Also not too sure about who has what in the works! Have given up hope of a proper Stove God album.

Also not sure what’s coming but the following have albums due in the next few weeks that I’m interested in:

  • Ghais Guevara
  • Mike
  • Pink Siifu
  • Brother Ali & Ant
  • And the Game’s Documentary 3, I guess

And that Saba/No ID album that Jamos mentioned

Mike and (probably more rap-adjacent) Bad Bunny for me. Always hoping for new Aesop Rock, he was teasing something on IG recently. That Mac Miller mixtape that’s coming to streaming.

That Clipse album should be due soon, the song they played at primavera sounded promising. Think Gibbs/Madlib must finally be due after they hinted at a release last year. Also still holding out hope for on that Chance mixtape.

Got the new ELUCID tape if anyone wants a link.

New Joey flows quite nicely

I really try not to like Jack Harlow but he does flow real nice too when he tries to

yes please if it’s still going

Don’t mind that from Joey Bada$$, but at the same time I can’t see the point in the competitive shots at Kendrick if he isn’t gonna go harder. No way Kenny entertains a response to it, if it registers at all.

He’s still only 29 and talented but really needs to do make some kind of statement with his music beyond 1999 if he doesn’t want to be remembered as an also-ran.

first boldy album of the year is a good one

Haven’t listened to his last two yet

This new Boldy is a bit boring. He’s sounding uninterested and even the beats aren’t saving it. Features a bit rubbish too.

Solid. Not gonna bother with the rest of the album as it’ll definitely be shite

The best cloud rap album of 2024 is up on streaming. RIYL woozy psychedelic modern rap production, helium vocals.

Only listened to it once so far. Love the first half or so but think it majorly loses its way/the narrative in the second half. I also think the features are a bit shite on first listen. Will see if it grows though.

I really don’t get the appeal of Lil Baby but it’s nice to hear Thugger back (do we think the verse is old and he just added that extra bit before it?)

Listening to this now by Italian rap group SUPERFLUIDO. Not sure if it’s a crew album or just a couple of them as their tags on Spotify isn’t great. But whatever it is, I reckon a few on here will dig it. Good stuff.
