Spotify has gone too far

Can only assume there are no new releases this week as that thread is fucked?! Any chance we ditch the Spotify links going forward? It’s such a great thread is a shame to ruin it with weapon making links which ironically nuke the thread

Apologies if this is covered in the thread. Shut me down if so. Just found it so annoying

  • Keep them
  • Ditch them
  • Use the search button we’ve got this covered you chump

Yeah love those threads but they’re becoming unreadable for me on my phone. Constantly refreshing / crashing.

Yeah much as I really like them when I’m on DiS on the computer, on my phone it crashes the browser when scrolling the release thread

Crashed my browser so much, on chrome on the phone so was a bit more lenient but did the same last week. They don’t even seem to give a smooth click through to Spotify and crash both so don’t even seem worth it.

Could be just me which makes me a bell I appreciate but sure I saw others comment

Big thread about it on the Site Feedback board. Id agree with the taking away of the preview boxes

Even on desktop they are screwing up my second monitor. (Appreciate this may elicit less sympathy)

I really wouldn’t want to be without the Spotify links on a purely selfish basis, but trying to think about whether there’s a way of viewing them without embedding for those having issues.

Just wondering whether the raw view of a thread works for anyone in the meantime at least, for anyone struggling to load the page or using screen reading software that now has issues navigating. You obviously can’t interact with the thread etc in it, but this is how this week’s releases look:

Really confused by all this. Seeing no issues using the PWA.

Well none that I’m noticing anyway.

Rather than links can we not just copy paste or something?

Think we should be encouraging click through to Bandcamp or something more Artist friendly as well but that is separate I guess

(I do use Spotify to be clear just hate myself a bit)

I’m not sure, if you just copy and paste it auto embeds doesn’t it?

The only idea I had to get around this is to force Spotify to display just as a url by wrapping the link in < and >. Would have to collectively agree we didn’t want to use the embedded player and rely on posters to follow this convention though.

So, an album I posted in there yesterday for example:

I’ve managed to escape any real buggy behaviour, but they seem less useful to me. On my phone at least, the save button doesn’t interact with my Spotify, and you can no long click through to open the album. I’m not about to sit in a thread listening to an album. I get that some people like being able to quickly preview things but on balance the benefits seem to be largely outweighed.

Probably best to close this thread and discuss it in the original thread since there are practical solutions suggested in the other one which should be acted on by an admin. @moderators
