No Compassion has a lot more going on than I remembered.
The Book I Read is the first banger of the album for me, love when it locks in to the groove so early in the song! Just an extended groove for a chorus, what an idea.

Probably my favourite Talking Heads album. Bought it in HMV in Cork one morning, listened to it on my Discman on the way to an osteoarchaeology exam. Failed the exam as I couldnāt stop thinking about this totally weird music I heard.
Love it to this day. The sparse production shows off some of their strengths very well; namely Byrneās vocals and lyrics, along with Tinaās bass playing. The songs have hooks for days, loads of odd production choices to keep your ears busy. It sounds so good too, very well recorded when compared to some records from that time.
10/10, Iāll love it forever.

Wow, love this version but didnāt realise it was Arthur Russell
absolutely adore Byrneās vocal on the first minute or so of The Book I Read, then the keys come in, just so good
nvmind, canāt expect people to play scotland on a tour of england!
Starting to listen to this now. Not keen on the steel drum on Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town but New Feeling is great, that classic Talking Heads sound from the off.
Been a long time since I listened to a TH album all the way through and so long since I listened to 77 I canāt really remember what it is like at all.
It is a fascinating thing on first listen - all that jittery energy definitely feels like it has punky roots but then you have the instrumentation and song structure which points to something completely different.
It grew on me as it went on so I think subsequent listens will reveal more as a fair bit of the first half passed by without particularly engaging me.
First Week/Last Weekā¦Carefree the initial highlight of stuff I didnāt recall.
First listen to the first half
Obviously giving it more time but up front Iām finding some of it quite ⦠annoying

Bloody hell! Listening clubs all over the shop.
May have to give this a go - Iāll try and give 77 a listen tomorrow. Iāve been meaning to get into Talking Heads but I only have Fear of Music
My previous read is that they were a busted flush once Byrneās ego outgrew the band
Psycho Killer is a song for me where the classic single version is basically the worst version (Stop Making Sense best version for me Clive)
Donāt Worry About the Government is so great. Maybe my favourite lyrics of Byrneās and itās so fun and bouncy.
Always struggled with these first two albums. Itās the sparseness of the arrangement and the thin sound that gets me.
Still, Iāve got 77 on at the moment. Itās fine. Iād forgotten that it doesnāt have Love ā Building On Fire on it. Weird omission.
Oh hang on, Donāt Worry About The Government has just come on. Thatās a great song!
Real grower of an album. Lots of space as @lastdino said, but the bones of the band they would become are there. Particularly love Donāt Worry About the Government for the chorus and the outsider lyrics.
