TV shows and books you've given up on

Not films because TKC made a thread for that here:

Anyway use this to list stuff you gave up on and, if possible, reasons.

Escape at Dannemora - after 2 episodes: well made but neither of us actually liked it.

The Shield - Season 7, episode 1 - Season 6 was so dragged out and the show was so abrasive we just couldn’t be arsed.

The Lincoln Lawyer - Season 3 after episode 5 - just a very beige/inoffensive character show. I could have kept watching but it started to just annoy my wife so much she tapped out there and I couldn’t be arsed to even read the end of the series on Wikipedia.

I’ll add more as I think of them.

DiS (and world) darling The Wire :grimacing: we watched five or six episodes, got busy then never felt arsed about going back to it

Harsh times but I think that’s a fair chunk to give your time to in order to know if you can be arsed.

Mad Men - started watching it a few times and quite enjoyed it, but then just went on living my life

The Walking Dead - dawned on me after a few seasons that there was no end in sight and the characters were just going to remain in a holding pattern of misery. Getting similar vibes from “From” now as well

Some bonus reversals: in 2006 I was lent the NuBSG mini series and S1, watched them all and decided it wasn’t for me.

Then our mates got into it so we went back and enjoyed the whole thing end to end in about 2010.

Also we watched the first two episodes of Only Murders in the Building when it first cane out and didn’t really get on with it but tried it again with our daughter earlier this year or late last year and got completely on board.

The Amazon LotR series - stopped watching after season 1 because it was a load of bollocks

This is one for me. Watched 3 or 4 episodes I think but couldn’t get into it

So many books. It’s embarrassing.

Yep last season of this was rough

Also Ted Lasso from I think 2nd series and Doctor Who, gave up during Jodie Whittaker and then came back and didn’t even try that last series.

Ha yeah, we only really watched it because all the bus adverts hype meant my daughter wanted to see it but no one brought up S2 when it came out

Actually not that many books for me.

Wizard’s First Rule, which I went into for a hate read and couldn’t even finish that.

Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, which I stopped at 51%. Loved the atmosphere but just felt really misogynistic and tedious.

Chronicles of the Black Company, which I went into knowing it would be grimdark and stuck out for 3 chapters until it got glib with r*pe at the start of chapter 4 and I just noped out.

I’ve bailed on The Sopranos twice, and it was the same episode both time, the one that takes place in Italy.

Gave up on One Hundred Years of Solitude (the book)

Mad Men after about 3 seasons
30 Rock after 1 episode
Always Sunny after 1 episode.

Does it count as giving up if you watch something all the way through once then only ever rewatch it up to a certain point?

There’s a book called Sunshine On Putty which is a history of British TV comedy that I’ve started about 4 times and is, ironically, absolutely as dry as a bone and twice as boring.

Oh yeah, me too. 50% in. Tedious, incestuous and shit.

My wife was much more into it or else I might have bailed but actually for me it only really got good with S4 onwards as they changed up the cast a bit and ditched all the tedious characters.

I mean I’m sure it’s too late for you now but there you are.

Sure

We got as far as the (TW: Sexual assault) rape bit and decided that was where we bowed out. Also it was just very very dull. Might try it again one day like I did with Breaking Bad.
