Favreau makes sandwiches. That’s the entire plot of Chef.
False, he plays a hard drinking detective who doesn’t play by the rules but does get results. In real life he’s ‘actor’
Bradley Cooper makes sandwiches. That’s the entire plot of this little sub-thread we’ve gotten into.
$22 for one of those puppies apparently, pre tax, pre tip. Would rather to feast on a plate of slowly heated baked beans frankly.
In a cinema.
- Watch Chef (2014), you’ll hate it
- Watch Chef (2014), you’ll like it
- Don’t watch Chef (2014)
Honestly think life is too short to not find out what you think about Chef (2014) by watching it to find out
One of those descriptions you kind of hope is AI slop as it’s more embarrassing to think a human wrote it.
Incredible bit of nominative determinism that a guy called Chef Carl Casper ended up working as a chef
About to watch a 10:30am showing of I want your sex. Let’s see what hornbags are going to the cinema at this hour.
August weakness:

Bugonia
Is This Thing On?
Masters of the Universe
Really loved Acme vs Coyote, maybe one of my films of the year
Gonna watch the 2022 Chip n Dale film and Who Framed Roger Rabbit asap in order to try and recapture the feeling
Dreadful Film
I hate to point it out in public but you’ve left a star off Infernal Affairs.
Oh that was lots of fun, nice to have Araki back being so sex positive.
Roisin Terfy on the soundtrack though ![]()
I hate to suggest lying to a dog
My most five stars in a month for a while, but all (almost) rewatches sadly
Best (non-rewatch): Duel To The Death
Worst: This Island Earth. Dull dull dull
MMOTM: The Abbott of a kung fu monastery is walking along and the ground begins to shake. Then a fifteen foot high ninja appears and begins to bother him then the giant ninja explodes into six normal size ninjas and they have a good old punch up and then five of the ninjas explode in puffs of purple smoke and then the remaining ninja jumps up and throws off all their clothes in the air and lands and it’s a naked lady and she whips her long hair round a bit and it flies off and turns into a net and captures the Abbott. This all happens in about forty five seconds of Duel To The Death.
& Sons
A really interesting plot device that unfortunately those at the helm didn’t seem to know what to do with.
This could have really worked as a tight 90 min exploration of “that” reveal, but Polley’s script is flabby and meanders in all sorts of unnecessary directions (the subplot with Dominic West a notable low point).
At its strongest it reminded me of Jonathan Glazer’s ‘Birth’, showing a curious insight into what we choose or want to believe. Much like that film, there is much to admire here, but I just wish it had been more disciplined in its execution.
No getting away from it either - it’s a crap name for a film.
