Which is fair - it was just in this instance my NPC stalling you was because I hadn’t set up the bloody map yet
We got burned pretty badly in the past to be fair
I’ve arranged at short notice to GM a game of Goat Crashers for some friends who don’t have any NYE plans (GOAT CRASHERS by gshowitt)
I’ve done minimal prep and have only a vague grasp of the rules, so there’s a higher than usual chance of utter shambles - which probably works well for this style of one-shot RGP tbh. Fingers crossed we all have a fun time
Has anyone gone about actively finding a D&D group that isn’t within your existing friend circles? How does one do that? Ideally with people who are nice progressive kind of people.
I thought you were exaggerating for effect with seven years until I saw Instagram
I would search for any gaming cafes near you on Instagram maybe, or possibly meet up.com? Another option is local facebook groups that are specifically about social events - where I live there are quite a few active ones about all sorts. I hope you can find some!
Yeah, I signed up to a D&D campaign with a bunch of people I didn’t know at all at the time. The DM posted on the Facebook group for our local Travelling Man’s D&D night that he was looking to run a campaign, so I turned up for session zero and started getting to know people.
Taking that approach will always be a shot in the dark, but luckily it worked out well for me - we turned out to be a pretty queer and left-leaning bunch, and via them I met some other TTRPG folks who we now play online with regularly.
There was some ATP-level drama with the designer using new Kickstarter funds to fulfil old campaigns, going out of business, being acquired, sold, acquired again, etc etc. I’d pretty much given up on it, but here we are!
Would probably prefer online, but might consider it
Do you use Discord? There’s an official D&D server which has a “Find a game” channel - it will be a mixed bag no doubt, but people do post online games on there that are looking for players. If it’s a decent group you should get a chance to find out more about them before committing to anything.
Ace, will take a look
So now it seems I’m going along to a group next Thursday - they have D&D, wargames and some other stuff on the go. Really should have done this a while ago, shouldn’t I?
You’re gonna have such a good time!
Well that didn’t work out for a bunch of reasons BUT
I am now looking at starting an online 5e campaign at some point in October. Will probably be Tuesday nights but could potentially change it depending on availability.
Before I put it out on Reddit/Discord figured I’d check here on the off chance anyone is interested.
Day/Time flexible but thinking Tuesdays 7:30-9:30ish?
It will be homebrew but a fairly traditional fantasy setting that to be honest probably could be Forgotten Realms or any other (I just don’t think I can face that much existing lore). There will be elements (e.g. deities) borrowed from various settings and it will follow the usual planar format. You will start at a port town festival in the wake of some freak weather events, and then take things from there in whatever way you see fit. Will probably start at Level 2 and will do a Session 0 first.
No experience required but will need free accounts for a few things (Discord, DND Beyond, Roll20).
Would need to be patient with a new DM who will be nervous and inevitably get some things wrong, but who will also be very grateful for corrections and feedback.
I’m quite interested in this but don’t think I could attend regularly.
Would you mind if I pitch you a character via DM and see if you think it would work?
Yes, of course. Would be happy to have people come in as guest characters if they don’t want to commit to a full campaign
I’m potentially interested, but a 7:30 start may be a little early for me some weeks, depending on shift patterns and so on
I think I’d probably struggle with 8 or later if it’s to be 2 hours (less is probably not enough time) but could definitely look at popping in for some quests when you are free if you couldn’t commit to a campaign?
Scheduling is the worst
Keep going from terror to excitement to terror but right now back on excitement
