🐠 The Neptune Music Prize 2017 - Vote Now 🐟

It’s that time again, for our annual alternative to the Mercury Music Prize, to highlight some really special records that we love, and to have a public vote to see which one you love the most.

As per previous years, we’ve used the same eligibility (albums by UK & Ireland acts released in the July-July time period) and haven’t included anyone who’s up for the Mercury Prize.

One vote each. Hopefully you’ll find a record you’ve not heard before that you go on to adore (that’s the real point of this)

  • Actress – ADZ
  • Blanck Mass – World Eater
  • Clark – Deathpeak
  • Forest Swords – Compassion
  • Honeyblood – Babes Never Die
  • IDLES – Brutalist
  • Jane Weaver – Modern Cosmology
  • Kelly Lee Owens – Kelly Lee Owens
  • Laura Marling – Semper Feminina
  • Laurel Halo – Dust

Idles album is called ‘Brutalism’

Sorry for being pedantic

provisionally voting Sleaford Mods but still need to check out the Moonlandingz and might try one or two others on the list that i haven’t heard

Balls! I knew I’d make one mistake (that may even have been autocorrect). Annoyingly I can’t edit a poll once it’s had votes…

Literally not listened to a single one of these

think i’ve heard five. quite like Meursault but i can’t remember what the new one was like.

I think I’ve only listened to Blanck Mass

Great list - Richard Dawson, Physics House Band and Lord of the Isles also deserve a shoutout.

Desperate Journalist sadly not on the list.

You’ve also got Ride’s album name wrong

The typos are as much my fault as Seans - typing and research was done while stuck in an airport waiting for a flight and under the influence of a very heavy cold. So, apologies.

I think the idles album is called shit songs, shit lyrics

It’s an amazing album, and my favourite on this list too, but isn’t she American?

That shortlist is soooo much better than anything on the Mercury list. Slowdive, Blanck Mass, Jane Weaver, Forest Swords and Laurel Halo probably constitute my top five albums of the year so far :+1:

Was Honeyblood really in the last 12 months (or whatever the cut-off is)? Love that too…
